I’ve shared before that I’m all about finding a balance between staying healthy and splurging, and today I wanted to share three easy healthy swaps I’ve been making weekly. Whether going gluten or dairy free, meatless Mondays or adding some extra health benefits, these are the items that I have been loving both for their taste and how they make me feel!
Pasta alternatives: Being Italian, pasta is always my biggest craving. For me, I’ve decided to save real pasta dinners for weekends out and at home, I alternate between a few favorite swaps. Last year, I became obsessed with making zoodles (this spiralizer can turn any veggie into a noodle!) and when topped with chicken, tomato sauce and a sprinkle of parmesan, you can’t even taste the difference! Two other great alternatives I’ve been loving currently are Banza Pasta (made with chickpeas) and Trader Joes Red Lentil Noodles. Both are packed full of protein and when topped with my favorite Trader Joes Vegan Kale Pesto (better than original in my opinion!) and a mix of veggies, you are completely full and satisfied.
Meatless meals: One of the other swaps I’ve made that has made me feel great during the week is trying to eat less meat. I think its been always conditioned for me to add chicken or meat to every meal, but lately I’ve been focused on finding protein in other ways. My new favorite weekly meal has been sweet potato and black bean tacos, which keep me super full and pack in a ton of protein and veggies. I sauté a big batch of diced sweet potatoes, onions and black beans for the week and then for dinner, will add on a gluten free tortilla (these ones are so good!) and top with some avocado, tomatoes, peppers and a little green goddess dressing. Such a quick and healthy meal for nights you don’t feel like cooking!
Kombucha: Kombucha has become one of the biggest health trends of the year and I’m all about it. These probiotic packed drinks are taking over every grocery and health store, with benefits that also help fight colds, lower cholesterol, and promote a healthy gut. Instead of reaching for another coffee or sugary drink, these are one of my favorite pick me ups in the afternoon. There are so many brands now, all offering a ton of different flavors. If you’re based in New York City, my favorite is Brooklyn based brand Pilot Kombucha. Not only do they have unique and delicious flavors, they also have the prettiest packaging (and are a great healthy mixer for cocktails on the weekend!). Other favorite brands that are available anywhere are Health Ade (Pink Lady Apple is my favorite flavor) and GT’s Enlighted.
