National Donut Day Guide

I’m all about the food holidays, especially when it comes to celebrating one of my favorite sweet treats: donuts! In honor of National Donut Day today, I’ve rounded up my favorite spots here in NYC, Chicago and other cities to make sure you can always find the best donut wherever you are!


DOUGH, New York City: My ultimate favorite NYC spot is Dough. Known for their large cake like donuts, my favorite flavors is Dulche de Leche and the Hibiscus, which is the prettiest hot pink shade!

Doughnut Plant, New York City: When I was first interning in NYC, Doughnut Plant was my go-to for donuts. They are known for doing fun, limited-edition flavors and decorations (like their latest rose one!) and the donut décor inside makes it even more fun.

Peter Pan Donut Shop, Brooklyn, New York: For a classic donut, head to Brooklyn to this old-school donut shop for classic flavors like glazed, sprinkles and cinnamon sugar.

Doughnuttery, New York City: If you’re in need of a little sugar buzz, stop by Doughnuttery in Chelsea Market for mini donuts in an array of flavors, toppings and sprinkles, perfect to share or snack on for yourself!

Orwasher’s, New York City: For fans of filled donuts, head uptown to Orwasher’s where you can watch them fill up your donuts for the freshest donuts around.

Stan’s Donuts & Coffee, Chicago: Every time I head to Chicago for a visit, a stop at Stan’s is a must. From their adorable pink and white décor to their assortment of delicious flavors, you have to stop in and try the Lemon-Pistachio Old Fashioned, which I crave every time I’m away!

Firecakes, Chicago: Firecakes never fails on having delicious donuts, and their giant donut birthday cake would be the best birthday surprise!

Potter’s Bakery, Traverse City, Michigan: Growing up in Northern Michigan, Potter’s is the staple bakery for everyone in town. Whether donuts after church on Sunday or a school treat, we rarely went a few days without Potter’s. My other favorite item if you’re not into donuts is to stop in for one of their classic iced sugar cookies – nothing beats them!

Donut Hut, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida: When in my favorite beach town, sharing donuts on the beach are one of my favorite ways to start the day.

Charlie’s Donut Truck, Alys Beach, Florida: Getting donuts in an adorable truck makes vacation even more fun, right? Head into Alys Beach early to grab sweets from this favorite local spot.
