Growing up, I was lucky enough not to deal with any bad skin problems, except the occasional breakout that everyone struggles with. When I moved to New York though at 22, suddenly my skin freaked out and I was constantly dealing with consistent breakouts that I could never seem to get rid of. After a summer of testing and trying everything, I finally discovered a skincare routine that has helped me tremendously.
Today, I’m sharing the steps I take to keep my skin looking its best, and my favorite products I would recommend to anyone to try as well.
AM:
To not over dry my skin, I only wash my face with warm water and then a splash of cold water to help wake my skin up in the morning. I also struggle with puffy eyes when I wake up, so if I have time in the morning, I love to apply Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Hydra-Gel Eye Patches. They’re cooling and in fifteen minutes, make me look extra awake after a night of not so great sleep.
Next, I follow up with a few drops of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum on my face and neck. While a little pricy, this serum is one of the top items that I believe solved my skin issues. It packs your skin with antioxidants and helps give you the perfect glow. I wear it both under my makeup or alone on my skin when I’m not wearing makeup.
I also find it important to use makeup that benefits my skin as well. I use two primers under my foundation: Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Complexion Primer Potion, to smooth out pores and fine lines, and Laura Geller Spackle Treatment Even Tone Primer, that helps even skin and diminish the appearance of dark spots, giving a natural looking glow. For foundation, Urban Decay NAKED Skin Foundation, is not only weightless and amazing at covering up imperfections, but it also helps with improving skin’s radiance, firmness and tone over time.
PM:
My number one rule is making sure to take my makeup off every night. To first wash off all my makeup, I either use SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser in the shower or Olay Daily Facial Cloths. Next, I remove all my eye makeup, which I actually use a small amount of my favorite lotion, Bliss Body Butter, on a cotton ball to help take it off. No need to buy a special eye makeup remover when you already have a great multitasking product!
My number one product for removing makeup and keeping my skin clear is Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Pads. Slightly tingly, they help get rid of all left over makeup and have done wonders in preventing breakouts. Since they can be slightly drying, I make sure to moisturize with a thick night cream after. Currently, I alternate between Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask and Goop Replenishing Night Cream to help replenish my skin while I sleep. Both smell so good, and aren’t greasy so I don’t need to worry about them clogging my pores.
WEEKLY FAVORITES:
I try to do a face mask once or twice a week and have grown custom to a few, depending on what my skin needs that week.
- L’Oreal Pure-Clay Masks: With three different masks (Detox & Brighten, Purify & Mattify and Exfoliate & Refine) these are great ones to use all at the same time for each area of your skin. And their great price point is an extra bonus too.
- Erno Lazlo Hydrogel Masks: I love a sheet mask when my skin needs an extra boost, and Erno makes the best ones out there. Whether you choose, Sensitive, Detoxifying or Firming, these will revive your skin instantly and are perfect for wearing during a Netflix night.
- SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque: If you’re in need of a deep pore clean, this clay masque does the trick. What I love most about this mask is that it isn’t drying and doesn’t crack while wearing, so it works to detox and hydrate your skin all at once.
Overall? 1) Always remove your makeup 2) Drinks LOTS of water 3) Moisturize every day!
You named some of my favorites! Loved reading about these products and your routine! Xo
