This post on Nancy Meyers Movies and Style was originally published in 2018 and updated in May 2020.
My love for Nancy Meyers movies runs deep. Some of my favorite memories have been watching her films, whether it is watching Father of the Bride with my sister and cousins on summer vacation, curled up on the couch at Christmas watching The Holiday or a sleepover with my childhood best friends watching The Parent Trap.
To me, her films are my ultimate comfort movies and also, inspiration. Whether it’s my dream home (Meryl Steep’s Santa Barbara house in It’s Complicated), dream wedding (Annie Banks’ backyard wedding in Father of The Bride) or dressing in head to toe white ala Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give, years later her movies are still so relevant when it comes to design and fashion.
I wrote this original post over two years ago and while rewatching all my favorite Nancy Meyers movies in quarantine, thought it was the perfect time to update it! Whether the perfect shift dress or cashmere sweater, you can too transport yourself to the world of relaxed elegance like Nancy would want.
How To Recreate Nancy Meyers Movies Style:
THE PARENT TRAP
This movie to me is the one that almost any look they are wearing, could still easily be worn today. From Annie and Hallie’s oversized Ralph Lauren oxford shirts, Elizabeth’s matching cream dress and jacket to Meredith’s sexy black shift dress, they are also classic 90s looks that work for 2018. I loved recreating their looks for Halloween a couple years ago with Carly!

FATHER OF THE BRIDE PART I AND II
While the first Father Of The Bride movie features a lot of chic, classic looks like Annie’s LBD with a headband and a pale pink matching suit moment, I found myself loving her looks in the second movie more (minus the pregnant belly!). From floral print mini dresses to her neutral leggings and blazer, these looks are still so in style and achievable thanks to brands like Reformation and Outdoor Voices.

IT’S COMPLICATED
Who wouldn’t want to spend your days in Santa Barbara wearing silk blouses while making chocolate croissants?! This movie to me is all about relaxed glamour, with messy hair in a tortoise shell clip and flowy times, which make it the ideal vacation looks.

SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE
To me, this movie is the ultimate summer vacation inspiration. I love how Diane Keaton’s character mixes shades of white and cream, ideal for a day on the beach in the Hamptons. Mix in some floral sundresses and a simple black bikini and you’ve nailed this East Coast summer vibe down!

THE HOLIDAY
While more suitable for winter, The Holiday does get cozy, but luxe basics right. From cashmere wraps to cable-knit sweaters, there is no shortage on classics ideal for the English countryside. The other looks I love (and perfect for work or a cocktail party), are lots of satin blouses and LBD’s trimmed with lace and other elegant details.
This is such a fun post!! I just watched It’s Complicated and I wanted every single room in that movie transported to my house pronto!

Nancy is the queen! I went to Santa Barbara earlier this year and my trip may or may not have been inspired by It’s Complicated. Love this post.
Cameron Diaz’s wardrobe in The Holiday is to die for! Poor Kate has to dress so frumpy for her character.
