One of the best parts of coming from a place like Traverse City, Michigan is there is always things to do every season, especially winter! I was lucky to spend some extra time at home at the end of 2020 and enjoy the fresh air and snow. With indoor dining and activities closed, I wanted to share five things you can do while visiting for a safe and fun winter weekend!
FIVE THINGS TO DO IN TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN THIS WINTER
1. Snowshoe and Ski
The outdoor activities don’t stop when the snow arrives in Northern Michigan! There are so many snowshoe and hiking trails across Traverse City and it’s a great way to get your steps in and take in the gorgeous scenery. If you’re a skier, the options are endless from the different Northern Michigan resorts such as Boyne Mountain, Mt. Holiday, Crystal Mountain and more.
2. Drink And Eat Outside
With indoor dining closed, wineries, breweries and restaurants are getting creative with their outdoor dining set up! We bundled up and had a safe and great time at Hop Lot Brewing, Suttons Bay Ciders, Hopscotch, Brys Estate Winery (where you can also snowshoe!), Ethanology, Farm Club and The Little Fleet.
3. Hike Pyramid Point
One of my favorite things to do anytime of year is head over to Pyramid Point to hike and take in the stunning views of Lake Michigan. This hike is pretty easy and only about twenty minutes up to see the bright blue water views.
4. Shop Downtown
The best way to support your favorite small towns is shop locally! Grab a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and walk through downtown Traverse City to shop some of my favorite stores such as Cherry Hill Boutique (my mom’s store!), Ella’s, Fustini’s, Horizon Books and more!
5. Order Takeout From Local Favorites
Another important way to support Traverse City and your favorite cities these days is ordering takeout from your favorite local spots! This is vital for keeping these spots open and to keep the money in your local communities. My favorites while I was home? Mama Lu’s for tacos, queso and to-go margaritas, Red Ginger for sushi and Mary Kitchen’s Port and Chef’s In for my all time favorite sandwiches.
Which of these things to do in Traverse City sound the most fun to you? Let me know in a comment below!
