I think it’s safe to say Fall is officially here! The change of season is always a good time to take stock of what’s in your closet. I’ve been leaning into creating a more cohesive wardrobe, so today is all about the classic fall staples to own now for a fashionable fall ahead! Due to their timeless nature, these wardrobe essentials are sure to last you years to come.
14 CLASSIC FALL STAPLES TO OWN
1. Neutral Midi Dress
A neutral midi dress is a staple for every occasion and something you can dress up or down. I love this square neck dress and this polka dot dress from Reformation. If you’re into fall florals, this is a cute option. I also adore this Hill House ribbed knit dress for the fall.
2. Cashmere Sweater
A classic cashmere sweater never goes out of style and when the temperatures drops, a cozy knit is a favorite to reach for. Whether you choose a more oversized style or classic fit, you can never go wrong with adding this to your rotation. Jenni Kayne also makes super high quality cashmere sweaters I love, like this one.
3. Blazer
Need to feel instantly polished? A blazer always looks chic. Whether you choose more of an oversized style, a classic tweed style, or something more preppy like this blazer with gold buttons you can’t go wrong. Pair with jeans for a more casual look, with a long skirt, or over a dress.
4. Leather Crossbody Bag
When it comes to accessories, I’ve worked hard to invest in classic designer bags, like my latest Celine, and a crossbody is so versatile to take you from day to night. For something more budget friendly I think this leather bag from J.Crew is super versatile, and this A.P.C. bag looks luxe for the price tag. For under $100, this would definitely be my pick!
5. Ballet Flats
Ballet flats are back in style, but they’ve never really been gone from my closet! Whether you choose designer or a stylish steal, they’re the perfect feminine staple shoe. Check out all my must-have fall shoes!
6. Leather Jacket
The staple jacket to keep you warm while still feeling stylish. I have this under $250 style at home and can’t beat the quality or price. It really is one of those perfect day-to-night pieces for when the weather turns chillier.
7. White Button Down Shirt
Steal a staple from the guys and add an oversized white button down shirt when you’re craving a classic look. I’ve been loving this one to wear with leggings for work at home or flared denim and heels.
8. High Waisted Denim
Dark denim with a high waisted fit always helps pull an outfit together. This under $100 pair has been my staple for years thanks to their range of colors and great fit. I also recently ordered these high waisted denim trousers and love them (pictured above).
9. Wide Leg Trousers
I picked up my first pair of wide leg trousers for my trip to London this spring and now, I can’t stop buying more colors! This pair has been my go-to and they’re such a chic alternative to jeans or leather. These under-$100 trousers from Abercrombie also have quite the cult following!
10. Black Ankle Boots
Boot season is finally here, one of the best parts of fall fashion! And I love a classic black suede ankle boot to pair with black tights or a cropped jean. For a leather option, these ankle boots from Everlane fit the bill.
11. Slip Skirt
A slip skirt has quickly become one of the most versatile staples in my fall wardrobe. This one from J. Crew is under $100 and looks great with everything from a t-shirt to a leather jacket to an oversized sweater.
12. Leather Tennis Shoe
A staple for every season, a classic white leather tennis shoe is the first thing I pack for any trip. This pair is a classic staple you’ll have for years to come. I also love this option from Everlane. For something a bit more on-trend, the Adidas Sambas are having a moment this fall!
13. Lady Jacket
One trend I’m really loving this fall is the lady jacket! This cropped silhouette looks great with jeans and skirts, or even layered over a midi dress. I’m obsessed with this tweed version, this striped version, and this denim version from J.Crew. Above, I’m wearing this fabulous cropped tweed jacket from Veronica Beard.
14. Chic Sunglasses
I always get asked about what sunglasses I wear, and 9 times out of 10 I’m wearing these Air Heart frames from Le Specs. They’re my absolute favorites and only $75! I have them in black, camel, and tortoise. This oatmeal color could also be fun for the fall and winter.
Classic Fall Outfit Ideas

Tweed Blazer and Jeans
I’m obsessed with these denim trousers from J.Crew, they’re so flattering and such a fun shape for fall! I paired them with this super chic tweed blazer from Veronica Beard, this timeless Chanel purse, and these versatile Chanel slingbacks.

Midi Dress
Unfortunately the dress above is sold out, but I think this is a great smocked midi dress in a neutral color palette. Styled with my favorite trusty sandals and Celine purse. I think styling a dress in a neutral or fall color with sandals is great for when the temperature hasn’t quite caught up with the season yet.

Jeans and White Tee Shirt
A timeless look! These are one of my favorite pair of jeans, styled with the best white tee shirt and these sandals. When the weather starts getting cooler, I would throw on a chunky cardigan sweater and swap the sandals for a different fall shoe!

Denim Shirt/Jacket
I love how denim on denim looks! Chanel your inner Chessy with a denim button up paired with your favorite jeans. The specific shirt I’m wearing is sold out but this option from J.Crew with jeweled buttons is fun and I’m drooling over this puff sleeve denim jacket! So chic!

Sherpa Jacket and Jeans
Trust me when I tell you this teddy sherpa jacket is so cozy! I’m excited to break it out again for fall. Also wearing my favorite Everlane jeans and sneakers.

Trousers and Sneakers
One of my favorite comfortable but still put together fall outfits, trousers and sneakers. Wearing the Reformation Mason trousers with my beloved converse high top sneakers. The Sézane cardigan I’m wearing comes in tons of colors and is such a great fall staple!
