FIVE ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR WORKING FROM HOME:
1. Have A Morning Routine
Even though I don’t get dressed up or put makeup on most days, I still make sure to have some sort of routine during the week. That includes setting an alarm and getting up at the same time each day, doing my skincare routine, making myself a Nespresso latte and going through my morning check list. As someone who works for herself, my work changes daily but having this similar routine each day keeps me focused and on track for the busy days ahead! My 2021 essential work from home tips below!
2. Make Your Work Space Organized and Calming
What I love about working from home is having my space with some of my favorite things! When working from my desk, I burn a candle every day as I love the calmness it brings to my work day. Some current favorites have been Otherland, Hotel Lobby, Boy Smells and Dipytque.
I also love having fresh flowers each week and I alternate between a few of my work playlists I’ve created on Spotify. I also keep this chic notepad nearby so I can write down my to-do’s each day!
Finally, I highly recommend is keeping your entire space mess free if possible. Since I work in my bedroom, I make sure to make my bed each day, don’t leave laundry out and keep the space overall as clean as possible so I’m not distracted by messes and to-do’s outside of work.
3. Move!
During the winter especially, it’s so easy to sit all day without getting out. For New Yorkers especially, we were so used to walking miles a day just from our daily subway rides and commutes to and from work. Now, I make sure to stop before it gets dark so I can do around a 45 minute walk each day and listen to a podcast, call my friends or family or even answer emails on the go. Getting those steps in makes such a difference for my mental (and physical!) health!
4. Hydrate and Stay Healthy
One of the things I make sure to do each day is drinking tons of water and not get sucked into lots of unhealthy snacks. Easier said then of course, but keeping my glass water bottle full on my desk keeps me hydrated plus makes me sure I get up every hour to refill. Snack and lunch ideas coming to the blog next week!
5. Set Boundaries
One of the hardest things for me is stopping at the end of the day. I’ve learned through the years that there will always be a to-do list at the end of each day, so setting a set time to stop your work day and transition to your evening routine is so important. I usually take my walk and then come back to do an evening workout and then help cook dinner. I also am trying to be better at not checking my email in bed as it usually results in me working at midnight! Boundaries only help you become a better employee as you can focus clearly on the work to do!
