Summer Travel Outfit Ideas
We’re smack in the middle of summer, and if your travel calendar looks anything like mine, you’ve still got a few trips left before the season winds down! I’m currently deep in outfit and trip planning, making sure I have my favorite travel items packed and ready to go. Traveling in the summer is such a blast, but it can also be crazy, hectic, HOT, and stressful. When it comes to getting your vacation off on the right foot, I think picking the right airplane travel outfit is key. When you feel comfortable, cozy, and stylish you can sit back and relax. Today I’m sharing a round-up of comfortable but stylish airplane travel outfits for the summer season — plus some fun pops of color!
Comfortable and Stylish Summer Travel Outfits
1. T-Shirt Dress and Denim Jacket
A classic airplane outfit! You really can’t go wrong with a comfy t-shirt dress and a denim jacket. I find it’s great to travel in your heavier/bulkier items (like a denim jacket or leather jacket) so you don’t have to worry about stuffing them in your suitcase. Add my all time favorite travel bag (it fits so much) and matching Adidas sneakers.
2. Matching Athleisure Set
For those flights when you’re worried about freezing in the air conditioning but also overheating on the ground, a cozy matching set is just the ticket! I think dressing in a monochromatic color scheme helps make you look a bit more pulled together. I love the hue of this Varley quarter zip and matching shorts. Accentuate with a cute baseball cap, sneakers, and a very chic monogrammed weekender.
3. Jeans & STRIPED Tee
For a short flight, I think a classic pair of jeans and striped tee is so chic! Wear closed toed sneakers for the plane and pack a cute pair of sandals in your carryon to easily switch up the look when you get to your destination. Don’t forget a cardigan, the best sunglasses, and matching weekender!
4. Workout Dress
A lightweight, breathable, and sweat wicking workout dress isn’t just for working out or tennis — it’s the perfect outfit for long travel days! This activewear dress is the perfect summery shade of pink. I would pair it with this deliciously soft SPANX sweatshirt, pastel pink sneakers, and a custom embroidered tote bag (one of my faves!)
5. Smocked Dress
Traveling in a smocked dress is great for summer because it’s cute, stretchy, and wrinkles minimally! Plus, you’ll probably be the best dressed person on the plane. Hill House dresses are some of my favs, including the classic Ellie Nap Dress. I always like to have a cardigan on me while I fly, and closed toe shoes are a must (how cute are these woven flats!) I think a classic L.L.Bean tote makes the perfect travel bag.
6. Striped Drawstring Pants & Cardigan
When I spotted these striped linen pants, I had to include them. I especially like how they look paired with a cashmere cardigan. Keep the whole look monochromatic with an Away suitcase and accessorize with this cheeky baseball cap and sneakers.
7. Leggings & Cropped T-Shirt
Another classic airport outfit! A cropped t-shirt and super soft leggings are easy to reach for when you have no idea what to wear. Add a cozy sweatshirt for extra warmth on the plane, plus these cool blue New Balance sneakers and a quilted overnighter.
8. Matching Linen Set
Lightweight and breathable linen is a great option for airplane travel. Plus, if you’re heading somewhere warm you can re-use this linen button-down and linen pants as a beach or pool cover-up. Top it all off with a neutral baseball cap, travel tote, and versatile sneakers.

When I have plans upon touchdown, I like to wear a versatile (and comfortable) dress that can seamlessly transition from the airport to lunch! A rainbow cardigan is the perfect topper, along with colorful sneakers and equally cheery embroidered overnight bag.
10. Cozy Cashmere Set
If stretch and comfort are your main priorities, I think a cozy matching cashmere sweater and pants can be great for airplane travel. Plus, you can easily add or remove layers depending on the temperature! A chic baseball cap, stylish tote, and navy sneakers complete the look.
